March is an exciting yet hectic month for students as they gear up for midterms and Spring Break.  Spring Break at the University of Arkansas is March 20 – 24, 2017.  During this time, students begin to realize that the end of the academic year is near. They also begin thinking about the upcoming year: what classes they want to take, where they want to live in the fall, and what they will do this summer.  We encourage you to talk with your student as they begin making these decisions. Even if they do not need help, your support can be essential in their success.

Spring Break Plans and Expectations

As Spring Break approaches, students will likely celebrate their week off of school with a relaxing vacation, making extra money, or catching up with friends and family. Whatever your student decides, consider talking with them about the plans and decisions that they make during their time off. Things to consider and discuss include alcohol use, burn out and stress, safety while traveling, upcoming assignments right after the break, and finances. Keeping open lines of communication with your student and setting clear expectations will help your student to succeed inside and outside of the classroom.

University Housing On-Campus Living Contract Deadline

The On-Campus Housing priority deadline for current University of Arkansas students is March 3, 2017. Current students completing their contracts prior to March 3 are included in the first round of room selections in mid-April.

On-campus students enjoy advantages that are not shared by students living off campus.  Recently, students were asked what they enjoyed about living on campus.  The majority stated the convenience – the nearness of classes and dining facilities, saving money on gas, and not having to worry about “fighting for parking.”

The next most common response was about their neighbors. Meeting and interacting with new people – from across the state, country, and around the world – was a contributing factor for students to stay on campus.

It is important that your student begins thinking about his or her options. Encourage your student to consider the advantages offered by living on campus and to complete their contract before the priority deadline of March 3!

Summer Classes

Want to help your student get ahead? The University of Arkansas offers summer classes to fit your student’s needs. Forget the hassle of transferring credits, summer classes at the U of A are offered online and abroad to make earning credits possible anywhere.

Summer classes at the U of A do not count against your student’s financial aid and are offered across all degrees.  You can view the summer courses catalog by visiting http://registrar.uark.edu/registration/schedule-of-classes.php.
