Most residence halls close for the Winter Break at 5:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20 and reopen at noon, Wednesday, Jan 1.

As the break approaches, students living in most halls will receive a hall closing checklist to complete and sign prior to leaving campus. Please encourage your student to complete all the items on the list to prepare their room for winter break.

Winter Break Room Checklist

  • Lock doors and windows
  • Leave blinds down and open
  • Turn off all lights and alarm clocks
  • Unplug: hair dryers, irons, curling irons, coffee maker, computer, TV, and any other appliances
  • Refrigerators are to be emptied, defrosted, and unplugged. Place a thick towel underneath refrigerators to catch any excess moisture
  • Remove fish from room
  • Take tickets for athletic events
  • Remove trash from room and properly dispose of it
  • Remove any items/furniture blocking your heating/cooling unit
  • Clear floor of belongings as pipes have been known to freeze, burst and cause flooding
  • Secure bike/scooter in a proper location or take it home for the break period

The following halls remain open during winter break:

  • Adohi
  • Clark
  • Gatewood
  • Gregson
  • Harding
  • Holcombe
  • Humphreys
  • Morgan
  • Pomfret
  • Yocum

Student in these halls are not required to leave the hall during winter break. Campus will be closed for a portion of winter break, so services will be limited.

Extended Stay Requests

If your student needs to stay in the residence hall past 5:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, then your student must complete an Extended Stay Request Form.

This form is available through the Housing Contracting Portal at campushousing.uark.edu starting Tuesday, Dec. 10. That form must be submitted by Monday, Dec. 16.

Your student’s coordinator for residence education will notify the student of approval or denial by Tuesday, Dec. 17.

The maximum length for a Fall Semester Extended Stay is noon, Sunday, December 22.

Below is a Winter Break Room Checklist, provided by University Housing, which your student will receive before they leave campus. Use this list as a reminder to discuss these items with them.

During the break, staff in all residence halls carry out routine pest control procedures and perform room furniture inventory audits.

More information, including important housing dates, is available on the University Housing website at housing.uark.edu.
