Student email accounts will move from Google Gmail to Microsoft Office 365 Outlook over winter break. This migration will automatically move all email messages, calendar appointments, contacts and attachments from Gmail to Outlook.
How will this move benefit students?
- Students, faculty and staff will be on the same email and calendar platform.
- Students will have access to the full UARK address book.
- File sharing and collaboration among students and their faculty, advisors and work study supervisors.
- Students will get even more features and integrations from their Office 365 apps, available for free to install on up to five devices, including iOS and Android.
Will my email address change?
No. You will continue to receive email at username@uark.edu, but messages will be delivered to your new Office 365 Outlook inbox.
Will this change affect my other Google apps?
This change only applies to Gmail. All other Google Suite tools, including Drive, will continue to be available.
Is Office 365 email user-friendly and compatible with all my devices?
Yes. Office 365 applications, including Outlook, run on Windows, Mac, and Linux systems, as well as mobile devices running iOS and Android. The web interface Outlook Online is easy to navigate, built to promote collaboration and meets accessibility requirements.
Will I be able to forward my email to another account?
Inbox rules and email forwards in Gmail will need to be set up again in Outlook.
Why is this happening?
- The Computing Activities Council (CAC) made and approved the motion to unify students, faculty and staff on one email and calendar platform.
- The change will remove barriers to collaboration between students and faculty as well as student employees and their supervisors.
