The beginning of the semester is an ideal time to remind your student about utilizing campus educational support services to ensure their successful collegiate experience. The Center for Learning and Student Success or CLASS+ focuses on four areas—Academic Coaching, Supplemental Instruction, Tutoring, and Writing Support to assist your student with their educational pursuits and provide additional assistance if needed.

Through tutoring or supplemental instruction, your student can gain support throughout the year to assist them in their coursework and increase understanding and problem solving techniques. For tutoring, the center focuses on anthropology, biological sciences, chemistry, economics and business, geology, mathematics and statistics, world languages, physics, and social sciences. Tutoring appointments can be set up on a 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 basis, depending on the assistance your student needs. Supplemental Instruction is a weekly study session for students in traditionally challenging courses. SI courses offered include: accounting, macroeconomics, microeconomics, biology, economics, chemistry, and data analysis. To sign up for a tutoring session or for a SI course, your student should visit http://class.uark.edu/.

Class+ provides face-to-face and online tutoring for your student with papers, essays, and other written assignments. Tutors provide reader feedback and collaborate with your student to help them learn revision strategies for improving their drafts. Appointments are available in 30 and 60-minute increments, face to face as well as online. Writing Support is located in 315 Kimpel Hall and in Mullins Library. Students receive help on papers for class as well as personal statements, scholarship essays, and applications for graduate school. For an appointment, your student can visit http://class.uark.edu/academic-support/writing-support/index.php to schedule an appointment with a tutor.

Academic Coaching is available to assist your student in developing better study skills, identifying their learning style, and implementing proven strategies like time management techniques, that can affect their overall academic success. Even if your student earned decent grades last year/semester, there is always room for improvement. Academic Coaches work with students on any subject matter. Coaches listen to the student’s challenges/issues from their past experiences, assess where the student is and how to get to them where they desire to be, and work with your student to create a specific plan/timeline to accomplish their goals for this semester. To schedule an appointment with a learning coach, encourage your student to visit http://class.uark.edu/academic-support/academic-coaching.php.
